通过采用创新的离子光学系统和碰撞池技术,LCMS-8040可以提供更高的多反应用监测(MRM)灵敏度。多极杆离子透镜增强了离子聚集并且减少了离子损失，从而利血平（S/N）提升5倍。这些改进也能提高扫描模式的灵敏度，从而扩展了LC/MS/MS的潜在应用领域。
LCMS-8040设计上保留了LCMS-8030的超高速度，同时能获得显著的灵敏度提升。结合岛津的UFsweeperTM碰撞池技术，高精四极杆性能和独特的高压电源技术，可以进行超快的MRM离子对采集，最高达555MRM/sec.。
除此之外，LCMS-8040具有最快15ms的正负极性切换能力。通过这些快速的性能，LCMS-8040将会显著提升分析能量。
岛津LCMS系统对MRM的优化是基于一系列快速的自动流动注射分析，仅需数分钟即可完成。多组分也可以自动进行优化，将分析人员从重复单调、费时的工作中解放出来。在LCMS-8030上优化的MRM参数可以转移到LCMS-8040，即两款仪器上的方法可共享。LCMS-8040在操作维护及清洗更换离子源相关部件方面，也和LCMS-8030一样，简单便捷。
